Moving The Boat
August 25, 2011
The Waterwolf is continually on the move, to stay atop the best fishing available at all times! We start our salmon season in the spring in Wilson, N.Y. The Niagara River and the famed Niagara Bar are just a short ride away for superb action of these acrobatic salmon, available in the months of May and June. This past spring was exceptionally good, with limit catches of salmon being caught on every trip off the dock! Our last trip this year out of Wilson, July 1st. , was our best, with over 30 salmon caught that trip.
In July, the Waterwolf is moved east..mid lake. This season we chose Fairhaven, for its close proximity to the deep water the salmon haunt during the mid summer months.
Many days we found our fish in depths over 500 feet.
Now it is time to move the boat again. Saturday August 27 , we will take our guests out of Fairhaven, fish beside the boats having too much fun in front of Oswego, and then dock her at Mike’s Marina , in the Little Salmon River. We will finish the last 6 weeks of our salmon season fishing near the Salmon River, where the bulk of the stocked salmon go to spawn (hatchery), and that watershed has a high percentage of the natural born fish also.
These “move the boat” charters are in high demand…so call your booking in early, and request them if you are interested in sharing this experience in the future ! (only 4 days out of the whole season)
Here are a few pictures of some of the seasons catch so far.
New Equipment Upgrades in preparation for 2011 season…
August 18, 2011
While the focus of the Waterwolf is constantly on the Safety, Comfort , and Enjoyment of our guests, we also strive to be on the cutting edge of new technology for our fish catching abilities! Two of this seasons major investments were for the purpose of STEALTH…and increased FISH DETECTION.
FISH DETECTION :
No matter how good of a fisherman you think you are…you will never catch what is not there! The first step to filling a cooler full of salmon, or hooking into a trophy of a lifetime muskie, is to find them. To help achieve this goal, The Waterwolf has upgraded to a Lowrance XD-10 broadband sounder, with Structure Scan side scan capabilities.
What an incredible piece of equipment! You really won’t believe how sensitive this new unit is, until you come fish with us and see it in action for yourselves! While trolling for Lake Ontario king salmon, we are seeing feeding salmon bust up a school of bait fish..AND ABLE TO COUNT THE INDIVIDUAL BAIT the salmon has busted out of the school, and is chasing! UNBELIEVABLE.
We are really excited about using the Structure Scan this upcoming muskie season, to locate those trophies lurking in the shallows , off to the side of the boat. The fish can no longer hide from the Waterwolf.
First you have to find them, then you have to present your tackle without “spooking” them.
SHHH… WE ARE FISHING HERE.
STEALTH :
Your grandfather was correct, when he told you to be quiet, and sit still in the rowboat….SOUND TRAVELS THROUGH WATER.
The other major improvement to this seasons arsenal…A brand new Yamaha 4 stroke 25 HP High Thrust outboard ” kicker” motor was professionally installed astern the Waterwolf !
We use the twin inboard 350 Crusaders to quickly cover the many miles to the fishing grounds, then shut them off and fire up the Yamaha to quietly troll into and through the “spot” , where we find the fish are. For those of you that have fished aboard the Waterwolf in past seasons, you will be amazed at how quiet it is on the water now, without the big engines running all the time! When we trolled on the big engines, we deployed trolling bags/seas anchors to slow our troll down, while maintaining higher RPM’s. NO LONGER NEEDED ! All that missing water disturbance and the lack of a big deep turning propeller equals a much stealthier presentation while we are fishing. The proof that it works, is evident in our higher catch rate percentages per trip this season ! While fishing out of Wilson N.Y. for spring king salmon, we were getting explosive strikes only a few feet down, a few feet back, behind the boat. Totally exciting seeing huge Chinook salmon jumping out of the water in the prop wash, as you are running to the fired rod!
Our goal is to always provide you with the highest quality fishing equipment available on the market, to enhance your fishing experience aboard The Waterwolf.!
New rods, reels, and tackle are constantly being added to our arsenal of gear aboard, so our guests have the best chance possible to land their trophy of a lifetime.
The huge schools of mature salmon are staging in the deep water near the river they will eventually run up and spawn in later this fall. Coolers full and daily limits of tackle busting, reel screaming, hard fighting Chinook salmon in excess of 20 lbs. are being caught right now, and will be, until the salmon run up the rivers in a few weeks ahead.
Don’t miss out on this annual event! There still are a few Prime Dates available on the 2011 schedule for you to join us for a fun filled, fishing adventure aboard The Waterwolf!
